Overview Laser Odometry and Mapping Loam is a realtime method for state estimation and mapping using a 3D lidar. The program contains two major threads running in parallel. An "odometry" thread computes motion of the lidar between two sweeps, at a higher frame rate. It also removes distortion in the point cloud caused by motion of the lidar. A "mapping" thread takes the undistorted point cloud and incrementally builds a map, while simultaneously computes pose of the lidar on the map at a lower frame rate.
The lidar state estimation is combination of the outputs from the two threads. If an IMU is available, the orientation integrated from angular rate and acceleration measurements are used to deal with general motion of the lidar, while the program takes care of the linear motion. Ask Your Question.The purpose of the performed experiment was to create 3D LIDAR point-clouds of the field enabling canopy volume and textural analysis discriminating different crop treatments. We evaluate the mapped point-clouds for their accuracy in estimating the structure of the crop parcels. The estimated crop parcels structure is a significant factor since we intend to use it as an alternative method to determine the biomass of the crops.
We use an Odroid XU4 with an in-house build extension board controlling IO and power for datalogging. Both camera and LIDAR is facing downwards since observations on the ground are the focus of this experiment.
A sensor mount printed in 3D nylon has been designed to fit as the payload. We have updated the extension board schematic with the changes discovered in the current release:. These sequences were recorded with a first-person-view FPV drone racing quadrotor fitted with sensors and flown aggressively by an expert pilot. The trajectories include fast laps around a racetrack with drone racing gates, as well as free-form trajectories around obstacles, both indoor and out.
With this dataset, our goal is to help advance the state of the art in high speed state estimation. Again, the competition will be held jointly with a workshop TBA. The goal is to estimate the quadrotor motion as accurately as possible, utilizing any desired sensor combinations.
